Out of the Nest

Blog Post

Remember last week when I wrote about how my life was turning upside down and I was being totally introspective? Well, things have continued that way this past week. I have been caught in the ebbs and flows of major life decisions.

I am so thankful for people, friends & family, that are supportive of my life. That truly want the best for me. This week, I was amazed by the support I have been given. Despite the support, the decisions I make are simply on me. They are up to me to decide.

Friends, relationships, are such a quirky topic. Friends add an incredible brilliance to one’s life, but they can also totally rain on everything.

Growing up I struggled with friends. I had a few, but not many stuck around for long. I think people liked me, but I only had a few people that I could truly call “friend”. After high school, I moved to California, I had better luck with friends…as in, I had more friends than before. But, again, they didn’t necessarily stay.

As life has continued, I have found that true friends show themselves in simple ways. They let you borrow their bathtub and text you everyday when your nephew is sick and they let you say selfish, mean things without thinking that you are selfish and mean. Friends stick with you, even when you act like an ass. Friends remind you of who you are. Friends support your wild, crazy, and maybe a little irrational dreams.

This week I got to talk with some of my best friends this week. I let them in to this process that I have been in…the decisions I am considering and reconsidering. I told them about my dreams that seem foolish. The ones that seem dumb to even consider. and get this…

they didn’t laugh at me.

or judge me.

or question my sanity…

they believed in me.

They supported my wild ideas and agreed with my crazy thinking.

I am so blessed to have friends like this. I realized that good friends push you out of the nest. Ya know how birds learn to fly? They get pushed out of the nest. One day at a time, my friends are teaching me to fly. They are refusing to let me stay within the safety of my nest…but instead, I am learning to spread my shaky wings and soar.

I want to be a friend like that.

Let me know how your friends have pushed you out of your nest of safety in the comments below! Thanks for reading!

Dreams Coming True

Blog Post, YouTube

Dreams are scary things. They seem far and out of reach. It is a fight to believe dreams are possible, that they could come true. We doubt the full abilities within us. We subscribe to the idea that we are chained to the cards we’ve been dealt. But the few, and far between, go after their dreams; they accomplish them. Those are the people we all aspire to be. Those are the heroes.

I want to be one of those people.

I have a dream of influencing society to see more beauty within themselves and others. My dream is to use the internet to create inspiring things and to reach people outside of my bubble. Currently, there are two ways I see of accomplishing this dream & becoming a dream-fulfiller…

  1. this blog. (this blog has become such a lovely place for me! I am so thankful for each of my followers & readers!)

  2. youtube.

Yes, that is right, youtube!

My boyfriend, Christian, and I have decided to embark on the realm of YouTube. We are so excited to be doing this together. We want our channel to be a safe place for people to find joy within our content, but also to be inspired to think differently and pursue wholeness more. I dream of really bringing our subscribers with us through the journey of life. We want to share about the ups and downs of our relationship, the tensions of figuring out which careers/jobs/ futures to pursue, and our own personal journeys of healing and continuing to become who we were meant to be.

We are thrilled to be pursuing this dream!

I know that some of you much prefer to read things, while others of you probably prefer to watch. My goal is to make both platforms (youtube and this blog) intertwined, but also very similar. So, if you want more of me or more of what I have to say, check out my channel! But this blog will also be a place for people to find more written details of my video content (when applicable).

This dream is something that we have been seriously considering for about 6 months. We kept talking details, coming up with a layout of how to do things, we bought a camera, but then nothing was happening. We even filmed! But, we kept letting it sit, doing nothing. A couple of weeks ago we finally had a tough conversation. We, both, felt fed up that we weren’t doing anything. We were all talk and no action. We, basically, said enough is enough. If we were really going to do this youtube thing…tha
n we need to actually do it. No more talk, just action.

If I am being totally honest, I was scared. I was scared of failing. I was scared of being a disappointment. I was scared of not being funny enough. I was scared of not being good enough. I was scared. But honestly, fear just keeps us away from our dreams. I am over that. I refuse to listen to fear.

Enough is enough.

Which brings me to today.

We have a couple of videos published on our channel so far…and a dozen in the works.

I just want to say…it is okay to scared of dreams. It is okay to even struggle to put action behind the dream. But, let this be your wake up call…

Your time is now.

You can do it.

I believe in you.

The world needs what you have.

GO. FOR. IT.

Missed Opportunities

Blog Post

Hello Lovely Humans,

I want to start by saying thank you for reading this post (& for checking out my blog!) It is such an honor to have each view, like, and comment I get. MarandaTaylor is a dream come true.

I have mentioned it before and will mention it again (somehow it comes out within each blog post I have)…the topic of

Self-Love.

Self-love is a subject that has many opposing views. Ultimately, to me, self-love is the intentional act of accepting oneself, fighting for one’s desires, and expressing love towards oneself. Self-love is not thinking that you are better than everyone else, but it is treating yourself with the same kindness you treat others with. Self-love is being gentle, gracious, and forgiving towards your being, actions, and body. Self-love is brave. Self-love is wild. Self-love is complicated.

Self-love has become one of my all time favorite topics. I believe that self-love is a journey, one we never arrive to a destination with. We are always learning new ways to love ourselves. And we are always presented with new opportunities to practice our new ways of self-love.

Now, I know that society hasn’t easily accepted self-love as a common practice, despite the strong efforts of men & women that are fighting to create a culture of self-love. Growing up, I didn’t know anything about self-love. I did not realize it ought to be a priority in everyone’s life. I never heard that my self deserved love.

If that is you, this is me telling you that your self deserves love.

Because society isn’t sharing about self-love enough…I want to. I want to share everything I learn about self-love and I want to constantly encourage those around me to love bigger and accept more.

Recently, I have been recognizing that there are so many opportunities for me to practice my self-love. Everyday I wake up and I get a chance to love myself more. But recently, I have been settling for convenience more than I have been choosing love. I choose convenience in my actions and choices. (For example, it is convenient to get some greasy food to-go as opposed to cook something healthy at home. Or it is convenient to not make my bed as opposed to take the time to create a clean atmosphere of a made bed.) I became convicted at the opportunities that I was missing.

I don’t want to look back on my life and see missed opportunities. So, I have been challenging myself to embrace the moments that each day has. This means infiltrating my life with things that make me feel loved. I want to decorate my life with things that bring me joy.

Have you ever spent quiet time with yourself to really discover what brings you joy? Have you ever spent time to ask your heart, what makes you feel alive? Well, I did that this past weekend and these are a few of the things that I have come up with…

a fridge full of fresh food,

essential oils diffusing through out my house,

sleep at a decent time,

long phone calls with old friends,

baths with a good book,

a clean and tidy home,

fresh flowers,

open windows at any chance I can get (in my house, my car, my office),

tween fiction novels,

face-timing my nieces,

slowing down for sunshine,

and journaling anything and everything that happens in my life.

Now, it might not seem like much but as I have been pressing in to this list of things that I love, I have been enjoying my days in a more fuller way. At the end of the day, I couldn’t tell you why I have had such good days but I think it is for pressing in to these things. I believe that it is these simple acts that elevate our lives from mundane to sensational. I believe that our lives can be full of vibrancy, but we have to actively choose that.

This topic of self-love is a big one, but it does not have to be overwhelming. Each day, you can practically love yourself. What is unique to you? More than just answering the question “how do you practice self-love?” I want you to feel inspired to put action behind your list of joy things.

It is people like y o u  &  m e that will create a society, a culture, of more love. So, start with yourself…you are stuck with you forever, anyways (;

Let me know in the comments what you did to spread more love today! (PS: Make sure you subscribe to my blog!)

Dirty Humanity

Blog Post

One of my all-time favorite things about me is that I am a human. That might be an odd thing to say, but I absolutely adore being a human. Being human is the hardest thing that anyone will ever do. Humanity is messy. It is dirty. It is a whole lot of spills, shattered glass, and broken hearts. It is selfish, offended, disappointed. Humanity is difficult, for everyone. Did you grasp that?

Humanity is difficult, for everyone.

The journey of being a human is a long, over-stretched process of each person simply learning how to human better. Regardless of who they are, or how well their name is known, no human ever conquers humanity (other than Jesus Christ, I guess. Lol). Each day each human is faced with a new set of difficult human challenges. I mean, “I am human” is the ultimate excuse. Each day we have more human choices to make on what kind of human we will be.

A huge perk of being human is that we are surrounded by other humans trying to be humans. We are all fumbling along trying to figure this whole thing out.

We aren’t alone in the mess and difficulty of humanity.

If you feel like you are struggling or have been having a really hard time recently, I just want to say that you’re not alone. Human-ing isn’t easy! Insecurity, comparison, and offense are popping up! But that does not mean we have to partner with those things.

Recently, I have been feeling super offended. I hate that, but when I am feeling those feelings I get to choose if I am going to align myself with those feelings. Am I going to align myself with that? Or am I going to rise? Am I going to examine the situation deeper and find the true root or am I going to stay in the shallow end of offense?

Remember, you are simply learning to human better. So, be gracious to yourself as you learn. Do not get angry at yourself for getting a bit of dirt on your hands. Life is messy. and it takes time. So, take your time & get messy

Mess does not always have to be a bad thing. When I look back at my life and I see all of the heart-break, chaos, emotions, and adventures I have been on I am extremely thankful. Each pile of mud I have stepped on has taught me. Each handful of dirt I have picked up has strengthened me. Each shoe, covered in dust from adventure, has shown me new perspectives. Sometimes our mess requires a different attitude. No longer will I view my mess or the messy situations I am facing as failure, instead…I will rise to the occasion and embrace the mess. I will joyfully allow myself to be covered in the mess, accepting it all, and then learn to grow from it.

Just like a flower blooming requires some dirt, you require some dirt to bloom, too.

Having the heart to grow, regardless of how messy it gets, is what is important. Growing and developing as a human, becoming better at human things, is what keeps us moving and stops us from being stagnant. So, regardless of where you are…if you feel like you are a storm raging or if you feel like you are an empty field, it is okay. Just begin to pick up your pieces and build yourself again.

Here is a poem by Pavana that I thought went nicely with this post…

somedays,
i am the flower
somedays,
i am the rain.

-pavana

I hope you enjoyed! Let me know in the comments your human thoughts! Also, would love to hear what you’d like to hear from me, let me know! Thank you for giving me your time and reading my sweet simple words. It is such an honor to have your attention.

Dreams in the Flesh

Blog Post

One of my New Years resolutions, as mentioned, is to take myself a bit more seriously. Not just letting each dream pass me by, but stopping and examining each & every one and allowing the true dreams to take root within my heart. Taking my dreams more seriously means giving them bones, meat, flesh. It means having a dream, protecting it in my heart, and then taking steps in order to see that dream come true. The wild thing is that I am actually seeing it happen and seeing flesh coming to my dreams!

But this does not just have to be for me. It isn’t just about me and my dreams coming true. Every person I talk to I feel like there is a grace for their dreams. Yesterday I heard of a friend who dreams of doing fashion and a local botique told her that they would buy her creations. That does not happen! Today I heard of a local artist getting the opportunity to do what makes their heart come alive. There is a grace. right now. Dreams of creativity, dreams of business, dreams of influence. I feel like the time is now!

I want to tell you why dreaming is important and hopefully inspire you to dream a little bit bigger.

Dreaming brings hope. When you dream for a different tomorrow or a different circumstance (or even the same!), you are hoping. You are wanting and believing for something. Hope requires trust. Trust in yourself, trust in the greater good. Hope is a muscle. It forces your to practice and become resilient to disappointment. Hope is required for dreaming. Hope says that there is more available to you. A life without hope and dreams is stagnant.

Dreaming creates an adventurous life (even if your dreams aren’t wild like jumping out of planes). Whatever it is that you want in life can happen and make your life the adventure that you want. If you want to own a business, or be a really good employee, than pursuing that desire would lead you to living a full life. It would lead you to living the life you want. Life can be anything that you want, but you have to allow yourself the courage to dream of what you want.

Another thing that happens when you dream is dreaming brings contentment within your now. There is something super special about the between season, the season of dreaming before the dream has fully blossomed. There is something special about the waiting. It’s like how Christmas Eve is kind of the best part of Christmas because you are awaiting the excitement. That happens with dreams, too. When you dream you can be content within the waiting.

Dreaming requires motion. It requires you to take bold steps forward. Dreaming is more than just accomplishing goals, it is a beautiful combination of goals mixed into one daring act.

One downside of dreaming is that it definitely challenges your belief in yourself. Can you believe that you deserve to dream? Can you risk in order to dream? Can you risk in order to see your dreams come true? Having a self is a right that each and every human has. What does your self dream of?

I went out to coffee with one of my greatest inspirations this week. We talked about dreaming and how people don’t have the courage to dream because they don’t have the courage or self-love to allow themselves to. We talked about how people do not know what they want because they haven’t given themselves permission to allow dreams to even taken root.

So, here I am…just an imperfect human aiming to have a wholehearted and full life. A woman that is simply learning life’s possibilities and I am telling you that dreaming is possible. I am telling you that you deserve permission to dream. You deserve permission to live a full life. I urge you to take the risk and imagine the best life you could think of. Dream with me.

What are your big dreams? What dreams make your stomach do flips just thinking about the possibility? Let me know in the comments! I am excited to hear & believe with you!
